Student Council Meeting Minutes
March 9, 2011
Called to order by President, Amit Pasupathy, at 8:10 am.

1. Last Meeting’s Minutes
a) A motion was made and seconded to approve the meeting minutes from 2/16/11.
Motion carried.
2. Club Fundraising
a) PE department is asking for $1250 for Mile Club t-shirts
i. about 200 students need Mile Club t-shirts
ii. Our extra money from the budget at the moment: $5, 185.49
iii. Do we want to cut the amount we give them or add to it?
iv. PE department seems to already have enough
v. A motion was made and seconded to give the PE department $625 for
Mile Club t-shirts. Motion carried.
b) Another fundraising request- will wait until we get more details
3. Fourth Dance- April 8, 2011 7-9:30
a) Most homerooms wanted a blacklight dance
b) Tickets may (or may not) be sold beforehand, officers will figure that out

a) Reps- get feedback: What did you/your homeroom classes think?

i. maybe will sell tickets earlier ($3) and have it $5 at the gate
ii. REPS: ask your homerooms if they would want to have this ticket idea,
and ask them for ideas on how to do the tickets (we need something easy,
non-reproducible, and affordable)
iii. ideas: put sticker on ID card, use invisible ink on something (use UV light
to check)

a) Red Cross is asking for $100 for supplies to make care packages for the military
b) A motion was made and seconded to approve the $100 to Red Cross. Motion
passed.
3. Scoreboard Donation
a) Someone offered to donate $3000 for a new scoreboard in the name of Andy
Garrido.
b) We need to match the donation for the other scoreboard if we want both the
scoreboards to work and that will be in the name of the class of 2010-2011 (8th
grade gift)
c) A motion was made and seconded to approve the donation match for a new
scoreboard. Motion passed.
4. Spirit Days
a) Scarf Day: What did you think?
i. good, but bad timing (it was hot that day)
ii. many people didn’t wear a scarf
iii. advertise it more next time
b) This Friday: Miller Spirit Day
c) Next Friday: Hat Day (remind classes that some teachers do not like hats in class,
so they still have to follow class rules)
d) Homeroom Reps: Please try to remind your homeroom about the spirit day the

a) Should extend lunch more?
b) Was very crowded, hard to find where to line up for parade

c) Total profit: $14,898.91
d) $8000 less than lowest year’s amount raised
e) If we don’t earn more money these things will be cut: after school sports, dances/
corrals, 8th grade award night
f) Might raise costs of dances/corrals
g) Might let 6th graders go to the dance? (Have them go to the gym possibly?)
h) Can get more money from online sales and other fundraisers
i) Fundraiser ideas: car wash, bake sale, snack shop after school?
j) Can eliminate useless spending such as:
i. Some clubs may be taking too much?
