Student Council Meeting Minutes
March 2, 2011
Called to order by Amit Pasupathy, President, at 8:15 am in room 14.
Assembly: Advisors, Officers, SSC Reps
Present: Mr. Headley, Mrs. Orcutt, Amit, Jessica, Michelle, Grace, Sidney, Ishaan,
Megan, Ruchi, Janice, Mihir, Prashant, Allison
1. Magazine Drive Pitch
a) Will be on March 10th, all officers will miss 0 and 1st period.
2. Pink Day
a) A school average of 51% participated
b) Ask the homeroom reps with the highest and lowest class percentages how they
brought up/promoted the spirit day
3. Miller Idol
a) Auditions are from March 15-18
b) There are unique American Idol-like signs for contestants
c) Students will vote for the winner in the final round by donating money for
Pennies for Patients to the contestant(s) they like
4. Fourth Dance
a) April 8th, 7-9:30 pm
b) Will most likely a black light dance
c) Need to buy the black lights
5. Budget- still the same
6. Sergeant-at-Arms Report
a) about 6 reps didn’t show up last meeting
b) 3 of them are the same people who never come
c) Notify the alternate that he/she will be the rep for the people who never come
7. Nothing for SSC, the meeting was postponed
8. Green Officer Report
a) Continuing with the recycling project
b) Might start another project soon
c) Getting the gray paper bins out is the priority right now
d) Walk to school week will start in April
e) Meeting at lunch in room 14 on Thursday, March 3rd
9. Student Council needs to ask the school administration about lunch like theft and
solutions such as the position of the speed line.
10. Jessica’s Scooter Rack Plan
a) hasn’t been able to get the pipes, will look for them elsewhere

2. Third Dance
a) 250-280 people attended (less attendance)
b) Profit was about $650?
c) Maybe talk about lowering dance price at the full meeting
d) Mrs. Reed suggested $5 at gate, $3 for tickets
i. But might cost too much to get tickets
ii. Hard to find something easy to use, cheap, and non-reproducible
iii. Wristbands? Different color tickets?
iv. Maybe something unique that relates to theme
3. Fourth Dance
a) Friday, April 8th, 7-9:30
b) 2 possible themes:
-Black light (no other decorations though)
-Beach theme
c) With black light, we would need to buy them and find ways to put them
somewhere where the dance would be
d) Poll through homeroom reps if 7th/8th graders want JUST a black light dance (not
much of a theme or other decorations), or have more of a decoration based dance/
theme, or a dance/theme that would allow student to “dress up”

a) 20 people signed up, some people might not be serious about singing though
b) Maybe will have a waiting list just in case
c) 2 judges confirmed: Madame Kennedy and Ms. Emerson
d) Poll homerooms: Have Simon or just have the current judges?

b) Will start garbage collect plan next week

a) The nurse’s office is getting crowded with scooters
b) Jessica has a plan to use PVC pipes and metal bars to make something that will
hold the scooters and keep them organized
c) She asked for a donation from Orchard Supply Hardware

b) Will be put in the chained off section where the roses are (next to MP room door
next to lunch line)
c) Officers who’d like to help make this, please contact Sidney or Ishaan
3. Miller Idol

i. One at daytime, one at nighttime
ii. A motion was made and seconded to approve the nighttime fashion show.

come)
v. Will be music and pizza/snacks

e) Will go back to old budget before all the cuts (the one from the beginning of the

2. Spirit Days
a) Possible dates:
i. 1/21 - Scarf Day
ii. 2/4 - Hat Day
iii. 2/18 - Breast Cancer Awareness/Pink Day
iv. 3/11 - Pajama Day
v. 3/25 - Twin Day
vi. Others: 4/18, 4/29, 5/13, 5/26, 5/31, 6/1, 6/3, 6/6, 6/7
3. Club Bylaws Amendment
a) Clarifies “consent of the Miller Administration and Miller Student Council”
b) Advisors will look over, and then we will talk about it

a) At the end of February, someone from another magazine drive company (NOT
qsp) will present before the FULL Student Council, and we will decide which
company.
5. 2nd Dance Compensation
a) Can’t extend 3rd or 4th dance because those are with a different company
b) But it is decided that we will have them give us a free karaoke session at the next
corral.
c) Will bring up at full meeting just to notify reps
6. 3rd Dance
a) 4:30-7:00 pm on February 4th
b) Will have Dance Committee meeting at lunch in room 14 on Thursday, 1/6 to
finalize theme
c) Decoration ideas: Eiffel Towers, paper hearts/arrows, other French decorations
d) Have the food sold by leadership separated like French stores
7. Miller Idol
a) Julia, head of art committee, makes “Miller Idol” sign
b) 3 rounds:
i. 4 Judges, any song
ii. Teachers give ratings, then average out the scores
specific genre for song
iii. Students vote, will cut 1/3 of people
Maybe have students donate money to finalist’s box for a cause
(but will have to find a cause first)
c) Dates: 3/14-3/25 will be the approximate time, depending on weather etc.
d) Student Council Officers might sing a song too

difficulties
c) Prolong next dance?
d) Ask for money back from DJ?
e) We have a contract with the company so can’t switch companies
f) Much smaller turnout
2. Budget
a) Currently have $14,898.91
b) Need to cut some things such as:
i. 8th grade awards night from $2000 to $1,500
ii. Communication arts?
iii. NJHS to $275
iv. Student Council Spending from $1000 to $500
v. After School Sports from $5000 to $4000
vi. Science bowl?
vii. Lower dance budget?
viii. Need to see if some of the mentioned organizations have used all the
money yet
c) Have a 6th grade dance separately? Maybe an hour before a regular dance with
Mr. Yosh as DJ (may try for last dance)
d) The dance costs for the rest of the dances for this year will now cost $5. Was
voted on and approved.

a) Ipod
i. Orange touch-screen iPod nano, 8 gigabytes
ii. Can get it 15% off to about $130
iii. In total, about $200
iv. Maybe engrave something like “Miller Student Council 10-11”
b) Fogmaker
i. At Party City; makes blanket of fog
ii. $30 but $65 including cleanser/liquid
3. Spirit Days
a) Every 3rd Friday of a month

i. At Party City; makes blanket of fog
ii. $30 but $65 including cleanser/liquid

f) Because of planning issues, vote won’t count but will still apply for permit first
